The current facility of the Home of Special Care does not meet both sufficient capacity and adequate conditions for barrier-free use. For future operation and capacities, it is therefore necessary to streamline the layout solution, which, however, cannot be done without significant construction interventions. The proposal therefore envisages the removal of the original constructions of the above-ground and underground floors.
Urban planning solution: Since the new building will follow on from the existing development in the stabilized area of the city center of Žilina, the volume adapts to the dimensions of the surrounding houses both from the street and from the garden. It thus respects the valid spatial plan.
Architectural solution The volume of the new building of the Home of Special Care is designed to appeal to the general public for whom the building will serve. It is a modern object with classical attributes, referring to the morphology and traditions of Upper Považí, but in an abstracted, modern form. The decor on the facade and the railings also have other uses. In addition to a reference to traditional values, it also serves as an orientation point and optical stimulus for visitors with autistic disorder, which they can easily remember in the Žilina environment.
